It’s important to understand how bath enamelling is done and how to ensure the right method is used for the restoration of your beautiful antique bath.
Bath Shield Enamelling Method
Our Bath Shield method is a unique baked enamelling system developed in Switzerland and perfected in the UK over 20 years. Our baths have been restored for 5* hotels, National Trust properties, Royal Palaces and luxury homes where the attention to detail and longevity of the enamelling is paramount.
Our bath shield enamelling method
After a thorough cleaning and drying of the surface, chips and scratches are filled using specialist compounds. The surrounding area is then masked off to protect it.
Bath Shield utilises an ultra sonic bonding system that fuses the bath surface to the new enamel. This dramatically increases the durability and longevity of the the new Bath Shield enamel.
Once the bath has been enamelled (with up to 20 coats), the surface is baked using infra-red lamps which results in a very hard, tough service.
Once baked, the surface is sanded and polished with specialist compounds to give a smooth glass like finish. A final Teflon-based polish is then applied which helps to make the new enamel easy to clean and also prevents limescale build up.
Your bath is now beautifully restored and re-enamelled.
Poor enamelling methods to be aware of
Bath enamelling or bath resurfacing has been around for many years, but we have found that many companies fail to invest the necessary time or capital in a process which will stand the test of time.
More often than not, the surface of a bath is etched with acid or sanded down in order to key the surface prior to enamelling. The surface is left to air dry and many imperfections are left visible. Unfortunately this method usually fails quite quickly as water will break the seal between the bath and the new enamel coating.
Conventional Coating System
Only 2 bonded parts are in contact with the bath surface producing a very weak bond. This surface will fail in a very short period of time.
Chemical System
Some companies use chemical bonding which is an improvement on the conventional coating system, but there are still weak gaps in the surface that are not fully bonded.
Our Bath Shield enamelling service is a superior enamelling method and will restore your beloved antique bath to its former glory.
