What is Chadite?

Chadite™ is a composite material designed by Martin Chadder, exclusively for Chadder & Co. and is used in the manufacturing of our Chadder & Mosaic baths.

Our baths have a timeless roll top bath design that cherishes the beauty of antique cast iron baths but are engineered using modern technology.

Cast iron baths

The cast iron bath has been around for over 100 years and their style is so iconic, so luxurious, that they are still very much in demand today.

However, there are drawbacks to cast iron:

Weight
The average cast iron roll top bath weighs between 170-300kg and that is without water or a person taken into account. They are seriously heavy pieces to transport and install safely.

Cold to the touch
Cast iron is a cold surface and as such draws heat from the water, reducing the temperature of your bath.

Large carbon footprint
Mining the material, transporting it and the high temperatures used to cast the baths result in a large carbon footprint.

Roll top baths reimagined

Martin Chadder identified the need for innovation in the design and manufacturing of luxurious, antique-style baths.

Inspired by his yachting and marine industry experience, Martin utilised the latest developments in marine technology to embark on the CCT (Chadder Composite Technology) programme. He sought to produce a new manufacturing process and material which delivered on the following qualities:

Looked and felt like cast iron
Easy to clean
Lighter than cast iron but solid
Easy to transport
Reduced carbon footprint

The result was Chadite™

An innovative new composite material for our beautiful roll-top baths. Baths made of Chadite retain the vintage and timeless style of their heritage but offer a more modern and practical solution to cast iron.

Our range of Chadder baths, made using Chadite, have a Teflon coating making them easy to clean, are a fraction of the weight of cast iron baths at approx 90kg and are warm to the touch with good thermal properties to retain heat.

With this reduction in weight, they are easily transported and delivered to clients worldwide.
