How It's Made HOW CHADDER & CO. PRODUCTS ARE DESIGNED AND MADE

Made in England

At Chadder & Co. we’re proud to design and manufacture all our products in England.
Supporting artisans and local manufacturers has always been important to us and never more so than now. There is a fantastic legacy of product design, innovation and manufacturing in this country and we are always going to champion it.

When Martin Chadder first started collecting and restoring antique roll top baths in 1987, the baths were all stamped with ‘Made in England’, and often carried the company name and county where they were made.

When the source of these original antique baths started to run out, Martin was inspired to manufacture his own antique-style roll top baths and fittings, and of course, have them made in England.

Fast forward to the present day and we care as much about our products, where they’re from and who they are made by as we did then.

Product Design

All Chadder & Co. products are designed here in Sussex by Martin and Sam Chadder.

We have products manufactured all over England using artisans who are skilled in their specific craft, delivering on quality and with acute attention to detail.

Metal Casting

Our bespoke cisterns are made via metal casting and are one of our most sought-after products.

Metal casting is done in a foundry and is a casting process where sand is used as the mould material.

The bespoke pattern is placed in the sandbox
Recycled sand is compressed over the pattern
This leaves an impression in the sand for the metal to flow into
Molton metal is then poured into the sand mould
After cooling, the mould is broken open to reveal the bespoke cistern Chadder product.
After fettling (trimming any rough edges), the cistern is ready to be polished.

To ensure our processes are sustainable, we only use recycled sand and metal for sand casting Chadder & Co. products.

Metal Polishing

Our products are linished and polished to give them their lovely antique patina. However, metal polishing is not just for aesthetics. A proper polishing treatment with the right kind of abrasive surface will remove the effects of oxidisation, buff out surface flaws, deter corrosion and produce a mirror finish to the metal.

Maintaining polished metal is vital to prevent tarnishing and oxidisation over time. Read our Product Aftercare information for advice on how to care for polished metal products.

Mosaic Baths

Our beautiful mosaic baths are exclusive to Chadder & Co. They are handmade to order in England and designed by Sam Chadder.

Using the Chadite bath as a base, Sam selects the mosaics, designs the pattern and each mosaic bath is hand-finished as an exclusive one-off, limited edition piece.

Our Wood Vanity Units

Our Windsor Vanity Units are beautiful handmade wood vanity units that come in three sizes as standard or can be made to custom sizes on request.

The unit is cut and assembled to the designated size by hand, with extreme care and skill taken over the ornate carved woodwork that adorns the Windsor. Once assembled, the unit is sanded and primed. It can be sold as primed ready for our customers to finish or painted to any requested Farrow & Ball colour. In this example, the unit has been finished in Farrow & Ball’s Elephant’s Breath.

Bespoke Finishes

Chadder & Co. provides a wide range of metal finishes for their products, with a total of up to nine options, excluding the primed and painted finishes. This extensive selection gives you plenty of choices to create your ideal bathroom by combining different pieces, textures, and styles.

Add warmth to your space by choosing our copper or brass finishes, introduce opulence with antique gold, or maintain a timeless aesthetic with nickel and chrome. If you're unsure, feel free to discuss your bathroom vision with us, and we'll be happy to offer guidance.

Moreover, many of our products can be personalised through hand-painting, allowing you to select from a spectrum of Farrow & Ball colours. Alternatively, products can be primed and prepared for painting after installation, providing flexibility for customisation according to your specific preferences.

Exclusive Oyster Finishes

Our exclusive Oyster finish is a distinctive feature of Chadder & Co., meticulously applied by hand in our on-site studio. This finish imparts a breathtaking, shimmering lustre, elevating the elegance of your bathroom suite.

The development of the Oyster finish has been a lengthy process, spanning several years, as we aimed to provide our customers with a unique and luxurious colour palette that complements vintage style and glamour.

The outcome is a metallic shimmer reminiscent of oysters, contributing a rich depth of colour and shine to the metal. Unlike a flat-colour finish, the Oyster finishes boast a genuine sheen that captures and enhances light, adding a touch of sophistication to every product it adorns. Our exclusive Oyster finish is available in four colours:

Oyster bronze
Oyster brass
Oyster gold
Oyster black

Visit our bespoke cistern gallery to see more examples of our Oyster finishes.

Please note that the Oyster finish is not available on taps or Copper baths.
